It had been suggested that Richard Hinds was on Laws' shopping list, but the Scunthorpe Telegraph has linked United with a move for 24-year-old Angus - currently on loan with the League One club.
Laws also wants to bring a striker to the club during the coming week - with former loanee Andy Keogh expected to be the player.
Republic of Ireland youngster Keogh is currently on loan at Bury, where he was brought in as a replacement for former Iron target Dave Nugent.
Laws said: "I can assure the fans that we are doing everything possible to strengthen the squad."
