David Moyes, the Everton boss, recalled Duffy on Thursday ahead of the FA Cup third round tie against Tamworth.
First-choice defender Phil Jagielka is one of three first-choice players who suffered njuries in Wednesday night's 2-1 loss to Bolton, meaning Duffy is in contention to make his senior debut in domestic competition for the Toffees.
The Irish youngster, writing on Twitter, said: Just like to thank everyone for there support and never know... I could be back in weeks."
Scunthorpe stressed that they hope Duffy's loan can be renewed until the end of the season.
In a statement, they said: "The Iron are still hoping to renew his stay though, with our next match away at Colchester a week on Saturday."
