The centre-back, 26, was a free agent after having his Scunthorpe contract cancelled earlier this month.

He had fallen out with the Iron manager Nigel Adkins, and was criticised heavily by supporters and Adkins following the 4-4 home draw with Northampton Town. Iriekpen claimed his exit followed his decision not to accept a new contract.

Iriekpen agreed to join the Scottish Premier League side Hamilton Academicals last week, but reneged on the deal to go on trial at Ashton Gate. He has now earned a contract with the Robins until the summer.

"It's a deal that works out for both parties, id I can get into the team and start playing well it will work out for me and the club will benefit too," Iriekpen told City's official website.

"I've been here a week, the lads have made it easy for me to settle in. City is a big club, with the following to go with it."
