Lee went on trial last week at first division Grimsby Town, but although he was reportedly keen on joining the Cod'eads a move broke down due to financial issues.
But now Rochdale appear favourites to capture his signature, with Dale manager Paul Simpson claiming that he has received assurances from the player that he is keen on a switch to Spotland.
"I received a phonecall from his agent this morning to confirm Lee wants to sign," Simpson told Rochdale's official website.
"I am expecting another phonecall to confirm when he is coming in, and hopefully that may be tomorrow.
"I want to get the deal signed and sealed, and once that is done it will enable me to relax a little"
Oxford United, Cambridge United, Reading and Hull City had all previously expressed an interest in Super Lee before he went on trial with Grimsby Town last week.
