Hinds joined United from North Bank neighbours Hull, and his current loan deal will expire after the League against Northampton on April 9.
Iron boss Brian Laws could keep him at the club until the end of the season, but has made no approach yet to do so.
Hinds told the official SUFC website: "I don't think I will be staying. Peter (Taylor) just wanted me to come for a month, and that is all it is.
"I haven't spoken to the manager about any extention, and the 28 day period is the end as far as I know and I will return to Hull."
The former Tranmere player made his Iron debut in the goalless draw at Rochdale, and has featured in both games since.
He is out of contract at the KC Stadium in the summer.
