The former Scotland captain held talks with former Iron chairman Chris Holland about coming to Glanford Park, and was set to be appointed manager before the boardroom coup d'etat lead by major shareholder Steve Wharton.
This morning Blackpool confirmed Hendry as their manager for next season, with former Notts county manager Billy Dearden acting as his assistant.
According to our sister site Seasiders.net, he will not have long to settle in at the Lancashire club as they have a bare first-team squad and only one pre-season friendly lined up.
Hendry, who had a spell with Blackpool on loan as a player, is looking forward to his first break in management.
He said: "It is an incredible opportunity for me, when you have been in football for as long as I have the desire is there to move into coaching or management.
"This opportunity has come at the right time - I have missed the game for the last twelve months.
"I will be trying to put in every hour that is given to me and working in tandem with Karl Oysten and Peter Whitehead, as well as Ian Miller and Billy (Dearden)."
Seasiders chairman Karl Oysten said: "I know Colin has little experience but we have got the people behind him to help and guide him through the process, it must be a difficuly step to take to come into management but I have every confidence that Colin will take the club forward."
