The 21-year-old has been in fantastic form this season, forming a strong partnership with Steve Torpey after spending most of last seasons on the sidelines.
He has won a host of admirers with his performances, with various Championship and League One clubs watching him closely.
Despite his award, he was not included in the Team Of The Season So Far, put together by the Press Association.
Three Iron players were in the XI though, with Andy Butler, Ian Baraclough and Peter Beagrie rated among the best players in the division.
Former United loanee Sam Russell, now with Darlington, was also included in the team.
