A Football League tribunal ruled on Tuesday that the Tykes must pay United £75,000 up front, another £25,000 after 15 appearances, £25,000 after 30 appearances, and a further £25,000 after 45 appearances. If Barnsley later sell him on for cash United will receive 15% of that fee.
Ritchie told Barnsley's official site: "I suppose I am a little disappointed at the size of the fee considering the fact that Warren Feeney, who is a proven international, went for about £120,000. Having said that, I am pleased to finally get things sorted
"I think it draws a line under the whole thing and will settle everyone down although I do not think Paul (Hayes) cared one bit about the tribunal.
"It will also give us a clearer picture of our budget going forward this season."
