Hall had player safety in mind

Andy Hall decided the pitch was too frozen after an early pitch inspection on Saturday morning.

"You've got to think of the fans and player safety. It's nice to make an early decision to stop the fans travelling," he told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.

"We want a game on a Saturday afternoon like everyone else."

United had sheets covering the pitch that can cope with temperatures dropping as low as -4c."

The ongoing cold spell wreaked havoc with sport in the UK, with eight League One games called off.
