Wilder spent time at Millmoor as a player, but has two-and-a-half years left on his contract at his Shay.
The Yorkshire side are currently fifth in the Conference National, though Wilder would be tempted if offered the chance to return to his old club - who sacked former boss Mick Harford on Saturday.
But first he will try to engineer a giantkilling in the LDV Vans Trophy, as his side host the Iron in a re-arranged second round tie - with a long trip to Hereford facing the winners.
Wilder told BBC Radio Leeds: "I've never hidden my ambition to work in the Football League.
"I'd like to do it here but I would be showing a lack of ambition if I didn't want to get back into the League.
"I also expect my players to show that ambition and to keep on bettering themselves."
