The midfielder moved on loan to the non-league side - Scunthorpe's traditional rivals - earlier in the day, and went straight into the starting line-up for the 2-1 win over Wrexham that moved the Mariners up to ninth in the Blue Square Premier table.
Goals from Steven Watt and Alan Connell sealed a 2-1 win at Blundell Park to move up to ninth in the Blue Square Premier table.
"I thought he was excellent, he took some very good positions up and showed composure," said Neil Woods, the Grimsby manager, speaking to BBC Radio Humberside.
"He'll get better, he came of with cramp because he's been playing reserve football and it's not the same tempos as first-team football. He'll be better for [playing] the game."
Wright has never progressed beyond a squad player at Scunthrpe, but has racked up 59 appearances since signing in January 2008.
Ian Baraclough, the Iron manager, has targeted "two or three" additions to his squad, and should these come in midfield it would serve to further reduce Wright's chances of first-team football at Glanford Park.
Despite dropping down three divisions, Baraclough suggested Wright could still have a first-team future in North Lincolnshire if he impresses down the A180.
"He came to me a couple of weeks ago wondering where he stood, I said he was a valuable member of the squad but you can't keep people on the bench," he said.
"He can play in many positions which is why he has been around the first-team, but he's never had a run of games. It was ideal for Andrew to go and get games under his belt, and hopefully he'll come back to us sharper and eager to add to our squad.
"I expect him to do well, I wouldn't allow people out if I didn't think he would enhance his game ."
