Grimsby-based promoter Joe Frater, who manages Epworth super-heavyweight boxer Shane Woollas, is hoping to stage at least two events in the town in the coming year.
He has held talks with town-centre nightclub Club 2000, owned by former Iron director John Hayes, as well as Scunthorpe United.
The club own a marquee and club chairman Chris Holland has expressed an interest in hosting the events.
He told the Scunthorpe Telegraph: "We used the marquee for a players' function and it was a huge success. It became clear that we should use it for other events in the community and boxing would be something that we would be interested in staging.
"We have spoken to Mr Frater and, although things are at a very early stage, we would be more than happy to put an event on in Scunthorpe.
