Afterwards an emotional Calvo-Garcia thanked the fans, and vowed to return to the terrace in the future.
He said: "It has been a wonderful day for myself, my family and for the supporters and the town as well.
"I'm really honoured and I have a lot of respect for everybody, the players and supporters. because they have respected me this is my way of saying thank you.
"This is the way you want to retire, there's no better way than this.
"I will miss some unbelieveable friends that I've met but I'm sure I'll come back, go in the pub in Scunthorpe and drink with the fans.
"I'm very grateful for the wonderful years the fans have given me and from now on I am one of them.
"I'm moving from the pitch to the stands and I'll support Scunthorpe United forever."
