Atkins said: "I know he would be fired up and raring to go against one of his former clubs.
"Jamie knows he is here for the long term but he wants to be playing games and that is only natural.
"Just about all of our other strikers have had the chance to show what they can do with a run in the team and Jamie hasn't really had that yet."
