Scunthorpe chairman Steve Wharton has held informal talks with North Lincolnshire Council over moving to a new ground as part of their Lakes development plan.
Over the past week we have been inviting users of the site to tell us if they back the plans - with 75.5 per cent thinking United should move.
Just 24.5 per cent reckon the club should stay put at Glanford Park, where they only moved to in 1988 after quitting the Old Showground.
"We are giving very serious consideration to a new stadium, this would be a wonderful opportunity to play a aprt in a very ambitious and progressive scheme," said Iron chairman Wharton.
"There will come a time, possibly before the end of this year, when a decision will have to be made on which way we are to proceed.
"I would not support any move which saddled the club with unmanageable debt and I would be reluctant to become tenants of a council-owned property, even if they were generous enough to build one for us."
