Knill, who played at Glanford Park during the 90s before moving to Millmoor, previously coached the youth team at Millmoor and had a spell as caretaker manager last season.
Following the appointment of Mick Harford as boss in April, Knill has settled quickly into life as his No.2
He said: "It is good. Different from youth coaching where you do everything, then I had the manager bit last year which was really hard work.
"Mick is pretty good. He helps me a lot and you can see that he has been at good clubs and he knows lots of people so I'm really enjoying it.
"I think it is a good team. It is an athletic team and they get around the pitch and pass the ball - all the things you want a team to do."
