The Doncaster born keeper signed for United back in August 1997 after he had been released by Crystal Palace.

Evans made his Scunthorpe debut in October of that year when United went to Goodison Park the home of Everton, for the second leg of the second round Coca Cola Cup tie - conceding five times.

Evans made a further five league appearances later that season though keeping three clean sheets and apart from the loan signings of Morten Hyldgaard and Lionel Perez when United briefly flirted with the second division Evans has been United's recognised number one ever since.

Brian Laws said: "Obviously we are delighted Tommy has agreed to sign a long term deal which will mean his best years are with Scunthorpe United."
