The win over the Joeys at Blundell Park followed on from a 2-2 draw with Turkey at Sincil Bank on Wednesday night, and was enough for them to go top of the group on four points.
Turkey's 3-2 win over Portugal earlier in the day, leaving England one of three teams in contention to win the tournament - only Australia now cannot come out on top, having lost both their outings.
Portugal will be no pushovers: they looked impressive in the second-half of their opening game against Australia in Scunthorpe, relying on a hat-trick from Helder Costa to win after trailing three times.
Matthias Fanimo, Courtney Meppen Walters, Raheem Sterling and Nick Powell scored for the young Three Lions on Friday, with the Liverpool youngster Sterling particularly impressive.
Jan Versleijen, the Australia coach, said his players would benefit from playing against a higher class of opponents.
“The level of this game was too high for us and it was evident that these [England] players play at a higher level week in, week out," he said.
“This was the first time our players have faced a team as good as this in a match situation and it was evident that we were playing a very high quality opponent. The players will learn a great deal from playing a match like this.”
Sunday's match kicks-off at 3pm, with entry £3.
