Alan Knill, the club's manager, was sacked on Monday morning, after a poor start to the season.
"Gutted to see the gaffer go. People asking why I'm gutted? Because the gaffer couldn't have prepared us any better," he wrote on his Twitter account.
"Behind the scenes he did as much as anyone. Us players let him down."
Shane Duffy, the centre-back who spent part of last season on loan at the club from Everton, also expressed sympathy for Knill.
"Gutted to hear Knill got sacked. Done a lot for me in my time at Scunthorpe," he wrote.
This was echoed by another former Toffees loanee Conor McAleny.
"Gutted to see Knill being sacked. Helped me massively while I was on loan there last season," he wrote.
Brian Laws was reinstalled as manager on Monday, with Russ Wilcox also returning as assistant.
Several former Iron players, who worked under Laws, backed his return via the social networking site.
"Good luck to Brian Laws and Russ Wilcox. Good choices in my opinion to help get the Iron back on track," wrote Mark Jackson, who captained the team under Laws.
Paul Hayes, originally brought to Glanford Park by Laws from Norwich, was also supportive.
"Wow, just seen the news. Wish them all the best and hopefully they'll turn it round," he wrote.
