Dakin, a season ticket holder at the club, is backing the group as they seek to involve fans in the club’s decision-making process through a share ownership.
“I am delighted to make one of the first Iron Trust pledges. The Iron Trust’s aims are ones that I am sure will be supported by all Scunthorpe United fans,” he said.
“Where they exist, supporters trusts play an important part in the development of football clubs and improving communication between the club and the supporters is always a positive ambition.
“The supporters’ voice is well placed to assist the club in making the best decisions for its future. The Trust also provides the framework for supporters to become legal as well as moral stakeholders in the club through representation at shareholder meetings.
“I am pleased, but not surprised, that the club has welcomed these developments. Scunthorpe United has always been rooted in its community and forward thinking.
"How else would such a small club have enjoyed three recent seasons in the Championship? I believe that the formation of the Iron Trust will contribute to the long term future success of the club.”
The Iron Trust are inviting fellow Iron fans to pledge their support by registering at www.theirontrust.com and filling in a quick online form.
This will then enable the Trust to get back in touch as soon as they are able to take on full members, when fans will be invited to pay £10 for a membership until the end of next season.
“We are conscious that to some fans it may seem like we’ve been a bit quiet since our open meeting in December, but in truth we’ve been putting in a lot of planning work,” said Luke Thornhill, a member of the Trust’s working group.
“We expect to be able to sign on full members by April, with a recruitment drive planned for the start of next season.
“We hope to put all the money we raised directly into the club through a share purchase, enabling us to then represent our members at shareholder meetings and build on outralready positive working relationship with the club.”
