Rix, 26, had been with the Railwaymen for well over seven years, making more than 150 appearances for the League One club.
John Bowler, the lcub's chairman, told the club's official website: "Ben came through the academy with us and has been with us for a very long time. He has been a fine servant for the football club.
"He hasn't been able to establish himself in the first team as much as he would have liked and now feels he needs a fresh challenge elsewhere.
"I would like to thank Ben for his long service and wish him every success with his career. He will always been welcome here at Crewe Alexandra."
