Northern Ireland international McGibbon joined United from second division Wigan Athletic after being told he had no future at the JJB Stadium.
It is believed that both the club and player want to extend the current loan deal, even if it is only adding another month to the loan.
However, a permament deal is expected. Some quarters have even suggested that a two year contract has already been signed.
Whether McGibbon remains at GP for one month or two years it seems clear that he will still be wearing the club's colours this Saturday when the side travel down to meet Southend looking to consolidate their playoff position yet further.
