McDonald has had an impressive first season in the managerial ranks, with a late run of form almost firing Carlisle into the play-offs.
And although his side now have nothing to play for, McDonald is looking to end the campaign on a high.
"We'll be going down there to spoil the party of course," he declared.
"They can't have it their own way all the time - plus they beat us so we'll be trying to be party poppers."
A narrow defeat at the hands of Swansea last week ended hopes of a top-six finish, but McDonald is still rightly proud of his side's season.
"We have performed above expectations this season, and have laid a foundation for next year when we will be looking for promotion," he said.
"I'm very proud of the players, they have played to their full potential. We would really have been happy with 20th after two consecutive promotions.
"The players have certainly bridged that gap, and have been a credit to themselves, their families and the football club. I'd like to thank everybody."
