It is unlikely that Byrne will make an appearance for the full team but will instead train with the first team squad and then play for the B side who face corresponding fixtures.
Byrne, currently in talks with Brian Laws over a move to Glanford Park, was surprised to recieve the call.
He said: "I was surprised to get the call but it's nice to know that you're in the manager's thoughts."
