The 21-year-old suffered an ankle injury in the 2-0 Carling Cup win over Tranmere at Glanford Park in August.

And although Iron boss Brian Laws had hoped to have him fit for the trip to Belle Vue, the youngster will not be risked.

Laws told the Scunthorpe Telegraph: "Andy is not quite ready, he has not had a set-back or anything like that, the injury is taking just a little longer than we had hoped to heal.

"He has been able to do some pitch work, but we are not going to rush him back."

In Butler's absence, Richard Hinds has dropped back into defence to partner club captain Andy Crosby with Irish midfielder Richie Ryan coming into midfield.

The combination has worked well as the Iron sit second in the League table, and kept a clean sheet for the first time this season in the 2-0 win over Port Vale on Saturday.
