The Iron paid an undisclosed fee, believed to be £80,000, to sign the young forward from York City.
He was described by then manager Nigel Adkins as one for the future, but he no longer fits in the Iron's future plans and he is available on a free transfer.
His only appearance in the first-team was an 89th-minute substitute in the 4-2 Carling Cup win over Sheffield Wednesday in August.
He had been a regular in York's first-team in the 2008/09 season, but had only scored three goals in 29 appearances.
He had spells on loan back at the Minstermen and Kidderminster last season, but only started once for each club.
