Ian Baraclough is confident of adding another forward to his squad early next week, although he has given up moves for Will Hoskins and Glen Murray.
The Iron have made three offers for Hoskins, 24, but his current club Bristol Rovers do not want to sell a player who has got 14 goals for them this season as they battle to survive in League One.
A move for the Brighton forward Murray also appears to be off, with the indications that he will be signing a contract extension with the Seagulls.
Baraclough has enjoyed some success in the January transfer window, adding Paul Reid and Abdisalam Ibrahim to his squad on Friday after also securing deals for Eddie Nolan and Ben Gordon.
The lack of additional attacking options is not for lack of trying, and Baraclough expects to have more luck on that front next week.
"I'm looking at forward positions, that's a must and we're working very hard on that," he said.
"We're close to one deal but probably won't be ready in time for Saturday. Hopefully by the start of next week we should have one or two more additions."
