More than 1.8 million supporters passed through the turnstiles at grounds acorss the three division during the month of August alone.

Direct comparison with the same period last season is impossible as 70 more games took place but if the first 140 games alone are sat side by side then a slight increase still shows with an average attendane of 8776.

Last season the overall attendances were the highest for over 30 years, and these initial numbers suggest another succesful season.

"Fans are again flocking through the turnstiles which is great news and continues the upward trend of recent seasons," explained FL spokesman Ian Christon.

"The supporters are showing tremendous backing throughout the three divisions which is a tremendous boost for clubs during what is a difficult financial period for many."

Although 3781 fans packed into Glanford Park for the opening day visit of Wrexham, these crowds have fallen to 3540 and then 3178 as United put in the worst start of any side in the division.
