Adkins accepted an offer from Southampton on Wednesday but still took Scunthorpe's first-team training on Thursday and Friday.
United said on Friday afternoon that Adkins would be in charge as they had yet to come to an agreement with Southampton over suitable compensation.
"I'm still Scunthorpe United manager, I've prepared the players in preparation for the game. I'm 100 per cent committed to the game," said Adkins.
"The players have prepared very well. They are focused, I am focused. I will be in charge and our onjective is to get a critical three points for us against Bristol City."
The two clubs are still negotiating on a fee, with talks delayed because the Saints chairman Nicola Cortese has been in Switzerland for business reasons.
Steve Wharton, the Iron chairman, told BBC Radio Humberside that he was expecting an emailed response from Cortese on Friday night or Saturday morning to say if they accept the compensation figure being asked for.
