Failure to beat Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday left United needing a miracle to avoid the drop, but it will not prompt a firesale of the club's assets.
"Financially we are in a position where we do not have to sell" insisted Adkins to the Scunthorpe Telegraph.
"Whoever leaves, it will be on the terms of this football club and nothing else."
Although United's season has ended in disappointment, players like Martin Paterson and Joe Murphy are highly-coveted by other Championship clubs.
Bids for their services are inevitable this summer, but Adkins insists the club have no intention of accepting.
"We have young players who are learning and developing their trade. We have got to keep them hungry and we have got to keep this football club moving forward," he added.
"Martin Paterson has come in and scored 14 goals in the Championship - but has still got a heck of a lot to learn. Maybe in a couple of years time he can move on to bigger and better things."
