United won the match 4-0, although the score was only 1-0 at the break and it was only when the visitors were reduced to 10 men that the game was made safe.

"We stayed patient, played well and could have won by a bigger margin," said Adkins..

"Hopefully now we can all look forward to the third round draw and hope we get a good one. Personally for me, the dream would be to be drawn against Liverpool."

Before making plans for viewing Sunday's draw, though, Adkins was planning on visiting Scunthorpe General Hospital to check up on Hayes.

He was knocked unconcious in a challenge 10 minutes into the game and was taken to hospital in an ambulance for checks,

"I do not want to speculate on what his injury is. We are still waiting for the diagnosis from the hospital," he added.

"All we can hope for his sake is that it is a good one."

The Alfreton manager Nicky Law, a former Chesterfield boss, had no complaints over the result.

"We came to try and frustrate Scunthorpe and I thought we did that well for half an hour" he said.

"But the turning point was the first goal. It was a poor one to give away and it was difficult for us after that."
