Dagnall's two goals were his first competitive ones for the Iron, coupled with a strike from Collins and penalty conversion from Michael O'Connor secured a 4-2 win over the Owls.
"It was a fantastic game of football. I thought we played some really good football, passed the ball about and created good opportunities. We've scored four and could have scored more," said Adkins.
"I'm really pleased for Michael Collins. He has found it challenging since he has come to the football club, but started the game tonight and scored a great goal on half-time to justifiably put us in the lead because I thought we played some exceptional football.
"I thought we passed the ball about really well and in the second half Chris Dagnall scored two great goals We've lost players through injury at this moment in time but the lads out there worked their socks and played some really good football." Sheffield Wednesday were reduced to 10 men when Richard Hinds, a former Iron player, was sent off.
"We gave it a go, but the red card obviously doesn't help, we kept going and that would be something I would be very disappointed if we hadn't done," said Alan Irvine, the Owls manager.
"But goals change games and to have lost the one in injury time, especially when we had comfortable possession of the ball, was very poor.
"It was poor that we lost possession where we did and it was poor how we defended when we lost possession.
"To concede within three minutes [of the restart] with poor defending was bitterly disappointing."
