With the match kicking off at 10 O'Clock it meant an 8 O'Clock meet at Glanford Park and it seemed that the Filings looked still half asleep from their early rise as the opening quarter of an hour passed with little goalscoring opportunity before the home side took the lead - with their forward following up after seeing his initial shot blocked by goalkeeper Paul Johnson.
With the Filings a goal down they needed to dig in to produce a result, and with a long ball punted up the field from Notts Co there seemed no danger. That is until Filings right back James Newcombe and a County forward challenged for the ball, clashing heads and leaving Newcomble laid out on the floor.
The match was delayed for around ten minutes when it emerged that he had a serious cut just above his eyebrow which would need hopsital treatment. With Newcombe helped to the sidelines the game restarted with the Filings vowing to get a result for `Newcs`, Dan McGowan came on to replace him on the pitch.
This fired up the side, and within seconds of the restart Stu Conroy got an equaliser for the Filings, things were on the up (apart from Newcs). John Bailey quickly got a second and Andrew Leckey made it three - one before the ambulance had even arrived on the scene!
Ryan Parkinson got a fourth with the final score coming in at four-one, Newcombe requires stitches and was the first injury of the football season for the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham. After a delay, as lifts tried to find the hospital in a strange city, most of the Filings made it back to Scunny in time to see the match at Glanny Park.
