The next sixth months for the Iron is the most important period since the summer after nearly dropping out of the football league. On the pitch, securing league one safety and off the field replacing outgoing chairman Steve Wharton. The latter, I believe, being the most crucial.
Without a clear plan, the lack of leadership over the past 18 months has contributed hugely to form, or lack of, on the pitch. The trend of quick fixes in the way of short term contracts and loan deals must end, the only way to sustain the success we enjoyed during Nigel Adkins’ reign, is to turn to youth.
Turning to the off pitch issues, money, as many believe is always the answer in football, is not going to bring stability. Rather than large monetary investment, the club needs investment of ideas and innovation, a clear plan of where it wants, needs to go.
The Iron Trust must be heavily involved, for as long as I can remember the fans haven’t had a say in the running of the club. The board seems to acknowledge this, but to what lengths they are willing to go to ensure the fans have a voice, isn’t clear.
To use one of Adkins’ famous sayings, “Evolution not revolution”, under a new chairman we must evolve into a self-sustaining club, producing young, hungry players that can help us punch above our weight once again.
