Dear oh dear Mr Wharton, what are you playing at?
|
as far as the fans of Scunthorpe United are concerned.
Not only is Alex the longest serving player at the club, he is also the most popular.
The crowd love Alex not just because he gives 110 percent every time he pulls the claret and blue jersey over his head but because he scored the winning goal to win us promotion on that wonderful day at wembley.
Not that he lives off that goal you understand, he has been one of our most influential players this season, both defensively and going forward.
He has also been one of ourmost consistent. In his career Alex has played 180 games for the Iron and scored 27 goals.
This season he has played 27 times and chipped in with five goals.
I regard that as a good ratio for a midfielder who can defend as well as Alex can.
This is the first thing that the fans have asked you to do and if you deliver you will begin to do what Keith Wagstaff never could and that is to win them over.
Similarly Pat Mcgibbon is another good player that we need if we are to win promotion and then survive in the second division so get YOUR chequebook out... Please.
That's quite enough Wharton bashing from me for one week.
Gareth Sheldon will never be forgotten for the part he played in winning us promotion three years ago but I know that I am one of many who are beginning to seriously question his ability at this level.
You cannot fault Gareth for his work ethic but ever since he has returned from breaking his leg, I have noticed that he is scared to make a real tackle. I hope Sheldon silences his critics but in all honesty I do not think he is a third division footballer.
